August 18-21, 2011
Montague, Massachusetts
Located at the Foot of the Berkshires
You will…
Dear Change-Seeker,
You are invited to join a relaxing and life-changing adventure unlike any other.
A small, select group of Changing Course readers is getting together in August here in the beautiful Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts at the foot of the Berkshires in Massachusetts and I would be thrilled if you can come.
The place is teaming with creative entrepreneurial and artistic energy. You’ll also find friendly people, sunny weather, incredible scenery, and fabulous restaurants.
There is so much to do here – things I’ve never even seen. So I rented a small bus so I could take you with me on my first combination Work at What You Love workshop and Pioneer Valley Entrepreneurial and Site Seeing Excursion!
Explore an Area Rich in Natural Beauty
While You Master the Steps to
Profiting from Your Passions®!

Yes, we’ll be doing some sight-seeing. We’ll visit the Bridge of Flowers in geologically rich Shelburne Falls, where you’ll see the glacial potholes.
We’ll go on a mystery shopping excursion in artsy Northampton, Massachusetts. While we’re there I’ve arranged for a sit down with a local health food store shop owner who transformed himself into a successful chocolatier.
We’ll also visit a butterfly conservatory, take a walk back through time at historic Old Deerfield, and take in a play by a world renowned theater company that takes place on an 105 acre farm.
But we’ll also get down to business – the business of your life!
Sometimes you “can’t see the forest for the trees,” as the saying goes. The stress and obligations of day-to-day life can obstruct your view of what’s really important to you.
That’s why I wanted to step out of the routine for a different kind of Work at What You Love workshop. If you’ve ever participated in a day-long seminar then you know that as beneficial as it was, all that listening and thinking and absorbing can be… well, a lot to take in.
![]() Participants at the Ecuador Retreat |
Last April seven change seekers joined me for a Work at What You Love retreat in Ecuador. You can’t go to South American and sit in a seminar room all day.
So half the day was dedicated to learning, to discussing, to brainstorming, and finally to creating a personal plan for turning one or more interests into income. The other half was spent engaging our other senses by touring the local area.
It was such an amazing experience that I wanted to find a way to replicate that model without leaving the country. So I created an event that combines plenty of hands-on teaching and personalized coaching with local excursions that are both fun and informative.
I’m calling it my Work at What You Love by Profiting from Your Passions® Workshop AND Entrepreneurial & Site Seeing Adventure. The workshop portion will take place primarily from the comfort of my home.
You’ll learn about things like the “Five Best Places to Look for Ideas for Profit Centers” while sitting on a grand porch surrounded by rolling pastures and a bubbling stream.
Other times your “classroom” will be a local mountain top or a sculpture garden.
In addition to the remarkable beauty there’s something about being in nature that also gives you inward clarity and perspective… a chance to reflect on where you’ve been…
…and more importantly, to see what’s in front of you so you can choose your path in life. That’s what makes this event so special.
Here in the Pioneer Valley – known locally as the Happy Valley – I’d like to teach you a powerful road map… let’s make that “life map”… that lays out step-by-step exactly what’s needed to make a living doing what you love. Without a job, boss, or commute.

“When You Finally Take Steps In The
Direction Of Your Dreams,
Some Amazing Things Start To Happen”

My name is Dr. Valerie Young and I’ve been a Profiting from Your Passions® expert for going on 16 years. That’s how long it’s been since I abandoned my corporate cubicle and 90-miles-per-day commute to launch Changing Course.
During that time, I’ve helped literally thousands of people—just like you—infuse their lives and work with greater meaning and purpose.
If you follow the Changing Course Newsletter, you probably know about the intimate retreats I’ve held in my home here in rural Massachusetts.
I’ve done a total of five now, always with the same goal:
To help people like you to discover ways
you can get paid to work at what you love and
then design a power plan to make it happen.
And you know what? The results have been nothing short of amazing. It’s no wonder the
retreats always sell out…

How were Alison, Serena, Gail, and Judith able to make so much progress so fast?
They mastered the powerful secrets they learned at a Work at What You Love by Profiting from Your Passions® Workshop and Retreat. And they put those secrets into action!
You can, too. I’ll show you how when you join me this summer in Massachusetts.
Give Your Dreams the Attention They Deserve.
Most people spend more time planning a two-week vacation than they do planning for a better lifestyle.
Here’s an opportunity to get away from all the distractions and demands of everyday life – so you can give your dreams the attention they deserve.
Getting away will force you to take time out to think about your ideal life… in a setting that encourages big dreams.
During the half-day sessions of our Work at What You Love by Profiting from Your Passions® Workshop and Retreat, we will work together to…
Design A Lifestyle You Love!
So many people put their careers first and their lifestyle second, and that means they’re stuck with the lifestyle that goes with the career.
More often than not, that means a commute. Long hours. Getting up in the dark, and getting back home in the dark. Neglected family and friends.
That’s backwards!
I hope you’re ready to build your work – and work that you love – around the lifestyle you want. No more shoehorning your life around the demands of your career!
Maybe you’d like to live by the ocean… or find a way to spend a few months in Italy every year. I have clients who have done exactly that…
…all while doing work that is not only profitable, but also fulfilling! Sure, finances are important. But it’s not all about the money – it’s more about how you want to live!
Turn Your Interests into Income!
Just because you’re good at math doesn’t mean you have to be an accountant. And if you’re good at mowing your lawn, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should become a landscaper.
But you very likely have a talent for something that you do enjoy. Or an interest you’ve been wanting to explore. Or a passion for a cause.
Maybe you like traveling, playing the piano, writing, or helping people in crisis. You can make a great living at it!
There are people out there who will pay you – and sometimes handsomely – for your expertise, even if you don’t yet consider yourself an “expert” in any one thing in particular.
You know, since leaving my job, I’ve gotten to do some pretty cool things over the years…
…like being invited to speak at a conference in Panama attended by people who are passionate about living and working in another country…
…or going to Paris to both speak at a workshop for travel lovers on how to get paid for their photos or to be travel writers…
…or getting to meet and actually brainstorm with some amazing entrepreneurs from billionaire Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Airlines; to internationally-renowned wine expert, social media sensation, and best-selling author Gary Vaynerchuck; to internet marketing gurus Yanik Silver, Jeff Walker, and Carrie Wilkerson…
… or collaborating with two amazing women in the career change world — best selling authors Barbara Sher and Barbara Winter…
…or being interviewed by such publications as The Wall Street Journal, Inc., More, Kiplinger’s, Woman’s Day, Redbook, Glamour (UK), Psychology Today, and on and on…

It’s been an incredible journey. One that culminated with a six-figure book deal with Crown Publishing/Random House for The Secret Thoughts of Successful Women: Why Capable People Suffer from the Impostor Syndrome and How to Thrive in Spite of It (available October 11th)
I’m not telling you this to impress you. I’m sharing it with you to let you know that none of this would have happened if I hadn’t first tuned into what I truly love to do.
And the result is this: I get to live life on my own terms. I live and work in my own home, I work hard… but I also work when and where I want. Best of all, I love my work.
To me, a better lifestyle means getting to have more control over my time and life.
At Work at What You Love, you’ll have the opportunity of a lifetime to hone in on how you want the next page of your life to look like, based on what you love to do.
I haven’t missed my cubicle once, and neither will you!
How to Destroy Self-Doubt.
You Can Get What You Want
Out of Life, Starting Now!
I won’t mislead you, the “work” of living your dreams isn’t always easy.
You’ll run into resistance. Your friends and family might say, “You can’t do that. That’s crazy!” And if you’re not careful, you might start to believe them and doubt it yourself.
Also, you might start to think setting out on your own is simply too risky. Sure, it can be hard to walk away from a job with benefits…
…but believe you me, there are so many more benefits waiting for you. It’s riskier not to make a change!
When you’re self-employed, you can still have a retirement plan. And about your “paid” vacations – your vacations can now pay for themselves, and you can certainly take more than two weeks off every year!
Not only that, but there’s no boss to tell you how much your time is worth – now your “pay grade” is almost entirely up to you…
…you can set your own hours… live where and how you want…
…and spend your days doing the things that are really important and make you truly happy!
At Work at What You Love, you’ll learn all the secrets that will keep you unstuck and on the road map of success. You’ll learn to stay in control, so you can overcome any obstacles that might otherwise keep you from even getting started, like self-doubt and procrastination!
You’ll want to talk to your tax advisor of course, but since this is a business building event in every sense of the term, you may be able to write your investment in the retreat off as a business expense!
The cost? Let’s just say that right now you have the opportunity to attend an expanded 4-day event – that’s a entire day more than my usual workshops – for far less than you would expect to pay.
Besides what you should be thinking about is how investing in yourself now will pay off in the future. In fact, write this down: Ideas = Income
When you consider the cost of wasting years waiting, wishing, and hoping that inspiration will strike, this event is a steal.
Just one idea can make you many times more.

Don’t Get Stuck by These Dream-Busting Myths! Starting a business can be daunting… and well-meaning people can discourage you from even trying… They’ll tell you to “Get Real!” They’ll say you need a big idea…certifications…degrees…and boatloads of money. Well, it’s just not true! Take the Myth of “the Big Idea…” If you dream of building an empire and hiring a hundred employees, then yes—you may very well need a big original idea to attract a mother lode of capital and investors. But a modest dream of self-employment doesn’t require big ideas… big money… big anything! In fact, waiting to strike a big idea could keep you in business limbo forever… and that would be a shame… …because you have plenty of ideas in your “gold mind” right now! When you join me on this 4-day workshop and entrepreneurial adventure, together we will unlock a treasure trove of ideas that you could easily turn into profitable, enjoyable enterprises. Please join us! |
Action! All the Tools You’ll Need to
Successfully Launch Your Profitable New Lifestyle.
![]() Bridge of Flowers |
The Work at What You Love by Profiting from Your Passions® Workshop & Retreat includes some dreaming, yes. But even more importantly, it’s about doing. Because if you don’t take action, your dreams remain, well… dreams.
Some people are more comfortable with that. It’s easier to keep dreaming than to give a go at turning their dreams into reality. But I’m not one of those people, and if you’re reading this, then I’m assuming you’re not, either.
And here’s the deal…
You really can do work you love – and more easily and effortlessly than you imagine. You only need the know-how and support to make it happen.
Once you’ve identified how you want to live and the work you want to do, I’ll give you the tools you need to follow through and get started.
You’ll learn about how to do market research. How to find or create products. Where to find clients and how to create services to sell to them.
You’ll learn how to set prices. And even how to set up a website and process credit cards. All the nuts and bolts of putting your plan into action.
Sound overwhelming? Don’t worry – it will all fit into place once you’re here.
You don’t need to have a business idea before you get here. You don’t even need to know what you want to do when you grow up!
When I left my job 16 years ago, all I knew was that I wanted to not starve doing what I love. Needless to say, I met my goal and then some. And no one was there to show me the way.
Since then, I’ve been collecting resources, testing methods, and learning from experience how to help people like you work at what you love, too. All you have to do is show up – the proven, step-by-step process that has evolved over the course of a decade and a half will take care of the rest.

Get Personal Support
Before and After the Retreat.
Your journey will begin before you ever leave home. That’s because you are going to start off walking the same path as my private clients do.
You see, one reason I’m intentionally keeping the group small is that before the retreat, you will have the opportunity to experience a personalized, one-hour brainstorming session with me. This is where I take my experience helping people profit from their passions and apply all that know-how directly to you and your specific gifts and interests.
In this session, we’ll talk in-depth about how you can take one or more of the things you love to do and turn it into a income-generating small business.
As soon as you sign up, you’ll receive instructions on how to prepare for your individual Profiting from Your Passions® consulting session. You’ll be given the exact tools you need to zero in on the kinds of things that make you happiest.
And because you and I will have spent an entire hour together prior to the retreat itself, you and your passions will be on my radar screen before you even arrive in Montague. When I’m out walking my dog, I’ll be thinking about you and your situation. If I see something online or have a conversation with someone I think can help you, I’ll take note of that as well.
This alone represents a $750 value – built-in savings on your investment in the retreat… and a benefit you can enjoy before you even leave home!
During the retreat, you’ll have plenty of time in our sessions together to ask questions and get answers. And while we stroll through the Three Sisters Sanctuary, enjoy lunch at an outdoor café, or drive together to the next venue, I’ll be there to bounce ideas off of.
I mentioned before that the group size is very limited. It’s small enough to be intimate, but big enough to be a community of support once you get home.
You see, the other people you’ll be traveling with will become your “Dream Team” after the trip.
Though I have certainly coached a number of go-it-alone self-starters who have become very successful doing what they love, the great majority of my success stories come from people who stayed very active communicating with their Dream Team after their workshop.
Now that we’ve covered the “business” side of the trip, let me tell you a little bit about the fun, relaxation, and pampering in store for you when you join me for the Work at What You Love by Profiting from Your Passions® Workshop Retreat.
Because we’re going to have some fun, too:
Where We’re Going…

![]() Montague Bookmill |
Our adventure begins in Montague, the center of my own entrepreneurial world – a mix of rural country roads, gourmet restaurants, artisans and converted mills. In fact, the famed Montague Bookmill housed in a 19th century gristmill will be our first stop of the excursion.
Despite the fact that it is located a mere 90 minutes from the Boston, Montague and the entire Pioneer Valley enjoys a quiet quality of life unmatched in the bustle of a city. In fact the Bookmill store motto is “Books you don’t need at a place you can’t find.” But don’t let it’s out of the way location fool you.
The travel section of the Boston Sunday Globe was so impressed they featured a full page article. And the The New York Times called it “the valley’s most pristine ambiance for just plain readers” and praised “the Bookmill’s cafe, where the baked offerings are superior, as is the view of the rushing waters and the evergreens on the opposite bank, sharply edged against the snow. ”
That’s also where you’ll sit down for a thoroughly inspiring session with artist Louise Minks. When she’s not off painting in New Mexico, Vermont, or Martha’s Vineyard Louise is working in her charming studio in the same restored mill.
Louise will be the first to tell you she didn’t get where she is overnight. It took dedication and effort to create her dream life.
But today Louise says, “I love what I do and do what I love.” And when you attend the Work at What You Love by Profiting From Your Passions Workshop & Retreat you’ll gain the insight, the tools, and the continued support so you can say the same.
What We’re Doing: Visit Local Sites,
Meet Creative Small Businesses,
Take in the Local Theater Scene… and Much More
Of every full day that we’re together, half the day will be spent designing – and learning how to fulfill – your dream lifestyle and the work that will support it.
But here’s the huge advantage: You’ll have the opportunity, on your own, to reflect and get perspective on your true life’s goals in the clarity of the beautiful Pioneer Valley.
And from this clarity – with my help and the support of the group – you’ll be able to plot a successful course for making a powerful life change… working at what you love… and enjoying a lifestyle that not only meets your needs and desires, but gets you excited about your life.
There’s time built-in for writing in your journal… dreaming big dreams… and planning for a future that fulfills, in a very realistic way, your wildest fantasies.

And, as a group, we’ll do some exploring…
And that’s just day one. There is so much more to do and see. It may feel like a vacation – but it’s a vacation with a purpose…
When You’re Surrounded by
So Much Entrepreneurial and Artistic Energy,
You Can’t Help But Feel Transformed
Getting out of your routine is powerful. Getting out of your routine to join a group of like-minded souls on an entrepreneurial and site-seeing adventure is pure magic.
All the books and CDs in the world can’t compare to what you take away from a hands-on experience like this… one you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
A place that is brimming with creative energy is Northampton, a college town just down the road from me that earned the distinction of being named Best Small Arts City in the country. It’s known for its historic performance venues like the Academy of Music and the Calvin theater featuring world class entertainment, small shops, and food. Lots and lots of food.
You’ll have time to wander the town and explore a bit and savor over 30 dining choices – all within a few blocks.
This is also where we’ll visit our next inspiring entrepreneur – artisan chocolate maker Bud Stockwell owner of Heavenly Chocolates.
The assortment is out of this world… habanero hot pepper with dried mango… raw honey vanilla with Italian sea salt… fresh ginger ganache. You’ll even have the chance to try out your favorite chocolates on me!
As decadently delicious as this is, this is really about the person behind the product. You’ll get to learn first hand what it takes to turn a passion into a successful business from someone who has done it not once, but twice – one small step at a time.
Up the road we’ll also drop in on a local man who, when he wasn’t running his antique stove restoration business, was lovingly creating a sanctuary in his own backyard. There is no way to really capture Three Sisters Sanctuary and the exquisite detail of the objects and landscapes completely made out of found objects. When you see it you’ll understand why this dreamlike landscape was 30 years in the making.
Since its unlikely I’ll be repeating this workshop I wanted to make sure it was a truly remarkable event. So I’ve arranged for you to meet a few more extraordinary people on your entrepreneurial adventure…
People like horse lover Roberta Wilmore. In her 30 years of riding she said she rarely saw another black face at the riding centers where she worked or rode.
So she made it her mission to do for the equestrian scene what Arthur Ashe did for tennis by helping to support a multicultural and multiethnic environment in equestrian sports for all children.
Today the non-profit organization Children’s Equitation Center’s mission is to “stimulate, support, and encourage the involvement of children of color and other underserved urban children in the equestrian world and to find a place for them in horse related activities.”
Roberta is not grooming children for equestrian careers as much as she is using horses to teach the power of will, courage, focus, and discipline – something she herself epitomizes.
When you see the non-profit she operates on a beautiful 62 acre farm in the rolling hills of Ashfield, Massachusetts you’ll understand what it’s like to make a living while making a difference
Leslie and Eddie Grinnell didn’t plan to start a business. Leslie was a potter and Eddie worked as a mechanical engineer. Their entrepreneurial journey began in 1989 when their beloved ten-year-old dog Buddha lost the use of her rear legs due to spondylosis and disc disease.
That’s when Eddie began tinkering with a cart that would support Buddha’s weight so she could heal. His contraption worked so well that their vet began referring patients in need of carts for their own disabled dogs and with that Eddie’s Wheels was born.
Since then they’ve made thousands of carts ranging in price between $300 and $600 for grateful dog owners from all over the country. Business was so good that a few years ago they expanded into a several thousand square foot facility.
As a participant in Work at What You Love you’ll have the rare privilege of stopping by Eddie’s Wheels on a Saturday. That’s the day owners arrive for their pet’s first test drive. As you can imagine there are lots of hugs, tears, and gratitude.
Of his work Eddie says, “I was a highly paid engineer well respected on several continents and have to say nobody ever said thank you. And today every day starts with someone saying thank you.”
A side benefit of visiting Eddie’s Wheels is that it’s located in the picturesque village of Shelburne Falls.
You’ll definitely want to bring your camera. In addition to walking over the famed Bridge of Flowers we’ll also stop at the glacier-carved swimming holes at the base of Salmon Falls known as the Potholes.
We’ll stop to reflect on the day and tune into our own passions as the workshop portion of Work at What You Love continues right there in the sanctuary before heading off for a light dinner in one of the local “hill towns.”
Part “Work,” Part Play –
There’s No Other Experience Like It!
And speaking of “natural wonders,” on Friday night you’ll get to see – and experience – the live embodiment to Stacy Klein’s “big dream.” Stacy is the founder and artistic director of the acclaimed Double Edge Theater tucked among the hills of Ashfield, Massachusetts.
This summer’s performance, The Odyssey is the next in a series of always sold-out indoor/outdoor traveling performance spectacles that fuse myth and story with daring circus arts and live original music. A living example of thinking outside the box, the performance takes place both in and out of doors, using the hills, fields, barns, woods and pond of a 105-acre farm.
And when you join me this summer for the first Work at What You Love by Profiting from Your Passions® Workshop AND Entrepreneurial & Site Seeing Adventure, you’ll be among the thousands of people to attend this event from across the region and the U.S.
This is the day-by-day itinerary as it stands, but please be aware that the activities and schedule are subject to last-minute change.

By joining me in Massachusetts, you’ll learn how to see money making opportunities right in front of your nose, identify the roadblocks holding you back… and create a manageable plan of action for launching your dream.

So instead of the regular workshop price of $1,997 your friend gets to attend for only $1,497.

That means your friend can attend this entire 4-day event for just $747. To put that into perspective, that’s less than what most people pay to work with me for a single hour!
Plus when you and your friend register by the Fast Acting BONUS Savings deadline of Friday July 15th then one of you can also take advantage of the $250 travel voucher.
Add all of these savings together and it means your per person price comes to just $872 each! (Based on the July 15th deadline.)

When you consider everything you get… the full 4-day workshop/retreat… the pre-consultation meeting with me so zero in on a profit center before you even get to the live event… the entire resource package so you can get started right away… and the chance to be a part of an ongoing Dream Team to keep your and your goal of changing course on track – I think you’ll agree this is a remarkable offer.
And since this is the last Work at What You Love Workshop/Retreat for 2011 – and perhaps ever – I can assure you this generous offer will not be offered again.
Just listen to what a few past participants have to say about their experiences at previous Work at What You Love by Profiting From Your Passions® Retreats – and they didn’t even get to go on cool, local excursions:

Look, I don’t know how much progress you’ve made in advancing your dreams… if you have an idea… or taken steps to research or implement it…
So I certainly can’t promise you’ll walk away with a business in hand.
But I can promise you this:
You’ll be closer to the goal than you are now.
I can promise… you’ll receive tons of information and guidance. I can promise… you’ll walk away with a proven formula to help you Profit from Your Passions.
Remember… I’m handing over a COMPLETE SYSTEM, a ROADMAP for identifying your passion and turning it into your own money-making small business.
This is the step-by-step system that finally makes it possible for you to make a living doing what you love.

And this August 18-21, 2011 at the Work at What You Love by Profiting from Your Passions® Workshop AND Entrepreneurial and Site-Seeing Adventure, you’ll learn how to harness that vision… and build a life around it that not only provides you a living… but feeds your spirit, too.
